Position Overview The Summer Communications Intern – a paid position based out of Magnetar’s Evanston, IL office – will report to the Director of External Communications and play a critical role in firm-wide strategic communication initiatives. The Summer Communications Intern will support a variety of internal and external communications work, gaining exposure to media relations, content development, branding/design, social media and purpose-based philanthropic communications. The ideal candidate will work full-time (40-hours per week) during the summer. The position may start off remotely given current COVID-19 health and safety concerns. Successful candidates must show an ability to over-communicate and work well with a team remotely. The position may transition to an in-office internship, based out of Magnetar’s Evanston office, should COVID-19 health and safety concerns subside. Responsibilities - Serve as the firm’s “internal reporter” – developing story ideas, interviewing employees and drafting content for the firm’s internal employee news hub. - Write firm-wide emails and newsletters that detail employee initiatives. - Create monthly social media content calendars, as well as images and copy for firm’s social media accounts. - Support firm branding and design efforts. Adobe InDesign and Illustrator training will be provided. - Manage firm’s media and award lists. Contribute to media strategies and award nominations, as requested, under the guidance of the Director of External Communications. - Develop monthly Google Analytics report showcasing Magnetar.com performance to senior leadership. - Assist with philanthropic-communications and events for the Magnetar Capital Foundation, our purpose arm focused on improving financial education programming in U.S. high schools. - Collaborate with the Communications team on an ongoing basis to best meet and exceed the evolving needs of the firm.
